CATSACOULIS S.A. is the oldest olive oil firm in Greece, founded in 1863 on the island of Mytilene (Lesvos). From the start we were export-oriented, as the extra virgin olive oil of our island is strongly appreciated abroad. We endlessly strive to adapt to changing market conditions and new technological developments, while keeping intact the excellent quality of our products and a sense of responsibility in our transactions.

The island of Mytilene is home to 11 million olive trees. The groves are small and belong to a multitude of farmers, who tend to the needs of the trees with loving care throughout the year. When the season comes, they pick up the olives by hand, mostly with the help of relatives and friends, and bring them to the mill.

The olives are pressed within 24 hours of picking, at moderate temperature (25 deg C), each lot separately, and the oil is placed for storage in stainless tanks. There it is left to settle before being filtered. Bottling is done with modern machines under conditions of impeccable hygiene. Every operation in our factory follows the guidelines of a HACCP plan, which lay down all the necessary measures for a safe product of high quality.

The variety "Kolovi", which is found exclusively in Mytilene, produces an oil that has:

• Bright golden colour, due to low chlorophyll content.
• Intense aroma, due to the mountainous terrain and the limestone soil.
• Light texture, due to the relatively high percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
• Its flavour is relished by consumers, who find in it an excellent means of initiation to the pleasures of Mediterranean cuisine.

On this island a rare olive variety - Kolovi - has been nurtured since ancient times. From carefully selected hand-picked olives of this variety MOLIVO Extra Virgin Olive Oil is being produced in small quantities for the enjoyment of the real connoisseurs.
